Durham motorcyclist suffers critical injuries in crash

DURHAM, NC (WNCN) — A motorcyclist was critically injured in a three-vehicle crash Tuesday evening on North Roxboro Road south of Infinity Road.

The accident happened shortly before 5 p.m. when a van driven by Ryan Doherty, 39, of Durham pulled out from a business in the 5200 block of North Roxboro Street and clipped a Kawasaki Ninja sport motorcycle, which was southbound in the center lane, Durham Police said in a press release.

The impact knocked the Kawasaki into the far right southbound lane where it was struck by a southbound Toyota RAV4 driven by Karen Rodenhizer, 59, of Durham, police said.

The motorcyclist, Jordan Appel, age 21, of Durham, was taken to the hospital for treatment of critical injuries.

The southbound lanes of Roxboro Road were closed while officers investigated the accident.

No charges have been filed and the accident remains under investigation.
