CAMERON, N.C. (WNCN) – State troopers are investigating a single-car crash that killed two people.
It happened Monday night around 10 p.m. near the Lee County line.
A state trooper says the driver was operating carelessly at a high rate of speed when he crossed the center line. The car went off the shoulder, hitting a tree.
A female passenger died on scene. The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Troopers are still trying to determine the cause and have ordered toxicology reports.
