CARY, N.C. (WNCN) – The start of the traditional school year is only a week away, but the year after that was a heavy topic of discussion Tuesday.
Starting Tuesday, students and parents in Wake County who want to see where their school assignments for the 2016-17 year can see them now that Wake County Public Schools have released their draft proposal.
Parents can go online in the Wake County school portal and see where their children would be assigned, based on the proposal.
The online site was released Tuesday afternoon by the school system as the WCPSS Board of Education met at its Cary headquarters.
New numbers project the system will grow by 40,000 in the next 10 years. The system now has 155,000 students.
Wake County is booming and the system has struggled to manage the rising number of students. And school assignments are of enormous interest to parents and, of course, students. The assignments can have an economic impact, as school assignments can impact the value of homes in choice districts.
