Duke student sexually assaulted in ride home from bar, authorities say

Science Drive near Duke University, where the sex assault happened in a taxi, officials say.

DURHAM, NC (WNCN) — The Duke University Police Department is investigating a report of a sexual assault that occurred in a taxi very early Thursday morning, the university said.

The incident happened at approximately 1:45 a.m. on Thursday on Science Drive and was reported Thursday afternoon, authorities say.

The student reported taking a taxi with other students from Shooters II on West Morgan Street about 1:30 a.m. heading back to campus, the school said in an email to students.

“After returning to campus and once the other passengers had left, the student reported that the taxi driver touched her inappropriately. The student was able to exit the vehicle and run away,” the university said.

The taxi is described as possibly a light gold or light green minivan with a sliding side door.

The taxi driver is described as male of about 40 years old, standing about 5 feet 10inches tall with a medium build. The man had short dark curly hair and spoke with a strong foreign accent, the student told officials.
