CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) – A mansion on Charleston’s historic Battery has sold for $7.7 million, a record for a home in the city’s historic district.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports that the home is the Colonel John Ashe House, an almost 11,000-square-foot, four story mansion.

It was sold recently to a couple from Roanoke, Virginia.

The newspaper reports the previous record for a home on the Charleston peninsula was a home that sold in six years ago for $7.4 million.
