MURRELLS INLET, S.C. (WNCN) – A 15-year-old was injured when he was bitten by a shark Thursday while swimming just south of Myrtle Beach, WMBF reported.
The victim had bite marks from what appeared to be a smaller shark on his leg. The boy also suffered a bite to the hand when he attempted to fight the shark off, according to Murrells Inlet authorities.
The victim was swimming in chest-deep water when the incident occurred.
The teen was transported to the hospital for treatment, WMBF said.
Thursday’s incident comes more than a month after North Carolina and South Carolina saw a flurry of shark attacks.
A total of eight people were bitten by sharks along the North Carolina coast.
The first attack occurred June 11 at Ocean Isle. A 13-year-old was attacked by a shark just before 12:45 p.m. near Monroe Street
