Woman killed on I-40 in Raleigh identified

I-40 Westbound at South Saunders Street is closed to traffic as officials investigate a serious accident.

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – A womanwalking on I-40 West has been killed after being struck by a car overnight, Raleigh Police said.

Raleigh Police identified her as Annmarie Elizabeth Perna, 38. Police said she died at the scene. Police said she was walking after a sedan she had been driving became disabled.

She was hit by a 2010 Toyota pickup driving by Shawn Lyndell Price, 45.

Traffic was halted for hours between the South Saunders Street (Exit 298) and Lake Wheeler Road (Exit 297) after the 2 a.m. crash.

Pedestrian killed I40

This incident is in the area of the Project Fortify work zone, but officials said construction was not going on at the time of the crash.

The road reopened just before 5 a.m.

Traffic was already being rerouted in the area due to the road work.
