RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – A 29-year-old Raleigh man was arrested Tuesday morning on a list of charges including the prostitution of a child.
Aaron Drake Byrd, of 404 Haywood Street in Raleigh, was arrested around 9 a.m. at 2910 Capital Blvd. That address matches the listed address for the City Studios Inn and Suites.
Raleigh police said Byrd exerted control over the 17-year-old victim and engaged her in prostitution.
Byrd and the victim knew each other and had “some sort of working relationship with each other,” police said.
Byrd was seen taking money from the victim Monday.
An investigation began after that incident that resulted in suspicion the teen may be a victim of prostitution-related human trafficking, according to Raleigh police.
The victim did not suffer serious injuries.
Tuesday, Byrd was charged with human trafficking of a child victim, promoting the prostitution of a minor, common law robbery, breaking and entering with intent to terrorize or injure, assault on a female and failure to appear on a driving while license revoked charge.
Byrd has an extensive arrest recording dating back to Oct. 2007, court documents show.
Since Oct. 9, 2007, Byrd has been charged with 44 offenses including Tuesday’s charges.
Byrd is being held under a $206,000 bond.
An investigation into the incidents is still ongoing.
