DURHAM, NC (WNCN) — A dog died and a resident was left without a home after a house fire in Durham on Saturday evening, officials say.
At 7:04 p.m. the Durham Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 8 Highgrove Lane.
On arrival firefighters reported smoke visible from a two-story home. The fire was extinguished within five minutes of arrival, but 26 firefighters were on the call and at the scene for nearly 2 hours, officials said.
“A moderate amount of smoke damage was incurred on the first and second floors of the home,” said Chris Iannuzzi, Durham Fire Deputy Chief. “An unconscious dog was found inside the home, but resuscitation efforts were not successful,” Iannuzzi added.
The American Red Cross is assisting one adult. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
There were no other injuries.
