DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – A man who had been charged with sexually assaulting a female Duke student on Aug. 20 had his case disposed of by the court this week.
Ahmad Hezam, 45, of Durham, was arrested and charged with committing a second-degree sexual offense on Aug. 21.
A Duke student reported that at around 1:30 a.m. she took a taxi from Shooters II on West Morgan Street with other students and that the incident occurred after the other passengers had left. She told authorities that she was inappropriately touched by the driver while still in the vehicle. She said she was able to get out of the taxi and run away.
Hezam had his case disposed of on Wednesday. The second-degree sexual offense charge was voluntarily dismissed by the district attorney. No reason was provided. An assault on a female charge resulted in 18 months supervised probation and Hezam having to pay court costs.
