Arrest made after teen dies from gunshot in Cameron

CAMERON, N.C. (WNCN) – Harnett County authorities say a man has been charged in a shooting that left a teen dead Sunday morning in Cameron.

A call came in to the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office at approximately 3:45 a.m. in reference to a gunshot victim on Romona Collins Court.

Deputies and emergency crews arrived at 52 Romona Collins Court approximately five minutes later and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

The victim, Cheyenne Anthony Smith III, age 18, of Brooks Mangum Road was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

“The suspect and the victim were acquainted. The suspect did live in Harnett County until recently,” said Major Jeff Huber with the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office.

Sunday afternoon, Antonio Dre’wan Jones, age 19, of Lariat Road in Parkton, was charged with Second Degree Murder, Huber said.

Jones is being held at the Harnett County Detention Center under no bond.

“He is the only suspect known to be involved in the shooting,” Huber said.
