GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WNCN) – A homicide investigation is underway in Goldsboro, police said Sunday .
Police responded to a shots fired call in the 800 block of Crawford Street on Saturday. Upon arrival they found a man, identified as 29-year-old Marcus Montrell Mclean, lying in the street suffering from a gunshot wound.
Mclean was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he subsequently died. People who live in the area say it was a scary start to the morning.
“We heard about eight shots and after I heard the first shot, I got my daughter off the couch and took cover with her,” said Margaret Smith. “It was very scary,” she said. “The scariest thing I’ve ever seen in my life it was too many gunshots.”
Smith said that the city needs help to curb the crime in the area.
“We just have to pray for our city of Goldsboro.,” she said. “That’s all we have to do is pray that everything will cease. The prayer lords need to come out for the whole community because we need it right now.”
