NC State women swing bats, sledgehammers to fight eating disorders

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – The Southern Smash, an effort to raise awareness of eating disorders, was held Wednesday on the Brickyard at N.C. State.

The concept behind the Southern Smash is to help women “redefine their worth and beauty by letting go of those perfect numbers that weigh them down.”

Events have been held at colleges and high schools around the South.

As part of the Southern Smash, women used sledgehammers to batter scales.
