NAVASSA, N.C. (WECT) – Fire crews were called Wednesday night to respond to a house fire at 116 North Navassa Road in Brunswick County. Dispatchers received the call about the fire just before 10:15 p.m.
Crews with the Navassa Fire Department, the Northwest Fire Department, the Winnabow Fire Department, Leland Fire and Rescue, Brunswick County EMS and the Leland and Navassa Police Departments all responded.
The house was still showing some flames early Thursday morning, several hours after the fire began.
Eight people were inside the home when the fire started, but they were not injured. Several pets, however, died in the fire.
Navassa Fire Chief Donny Williams said two firefighters were taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center to be treated for injuries.
Scott Garner, Brunswick County Emergency Services Director, said the fire started in the garage and spread to the living area. The cause of the fire remains unknown. Foul-play is not suspected.
