CLINTON, N.C. (WNCN) –  Clinton police and SBI agents are searching for a car in connection to the shooting death of a 56-year-old man on Wednesday.

Police said a 911 call alerted them to a shooting at West Morrissey Boulevard and Stetson Street at 7:16 p.m. Wednesday.

When first responders arrived on scene, they found 56-year-old Benjamin Cunningham lying in his own yard. Family members said he was on his way to church.

Cunningham was pronounced dead on scene.

Now police are hoping community members can help them locate an older model 4-door burgundy Nissan Sentra with tinted windows and chrome rims. Officials say the car was seen speeding away after the shooting.

“For somebody to come to my house and kill my brother, it’s real hard,” said Jerry Cunningham. “And if anybody has any information on it, please talk to the police department and help find the person that’s done this. We need justice. I need justice.”

Cunningham was very active at his church. He was known for his cooking as Cunningham frequently prepared meals for the church and for a local homeless shelter, according to family members.
