RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – St. Augustine’s continued as normal on Thursday as the football team practiced without suspended head coach Michael Morand.

Assistant coaches Tim Chavous and Jonathan Kelly will lead the team while Morand is out two weeks on administrative leave without pay.

“We are in the season and pretty much everything was going smooth,” Chavous said. “We had a structure. We had everything structured like we want it. So we don’t change anything. We’re pretty much going to stay with the same flow.”

Athletics director George Williams was at practice on Thursday and would not reveal details of what happened with Morand. However, he said Morand had not lived up to the expectations he has as a football coach.

Further action may be taken after an internal investigation, the school said.

St. Aug’s plays Saturday against Elizabeth City State at Sanderson High School’s Gregson Stadium in Raleigh. The game is at 1 p.m.

St. Aug’s is off to an 0-2 start this season.
