Motorcyclist seriously injured in Clayton wreck; Woman charged

Rebecca Jean Rota faces multiple charges after hitting a motorcyclist Sunday morning.

CLAYTON, N.C. (WNCN) – A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash Sunday morning in Clayton, officials said.

The incident happened at approximately 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of Old Garner Road and Shotwell Road.

Both the motorcycle and car were traveling eastbound on Old Garner Road at the time of the incident. Rebecca Jean Mota, 42, entered the intersection and suddenly attempted to make a U-turn, Clayton Police said. As Mota was making her turn, Phillip Della Camera, 56, was entering the intersection on his motorcycle. Mota’s car slammed into the motorcycle.

Mota was arrested and charged with driving while impaired, driving with license revoked, improper turn, failing to reduce speed to avoid a collision, and a felony charge of aggravated felony serious injury by vehicle.

Mota is currently being held in the Johnston County jail under a $107,500 bond.

Clayton officials said they are unable to comment on the extent of Camera’s injuries.
