SPRING LAKE, N.C. (WNCN) – Spring Lake Mayor Chris Rey announced Monday morning on his website ChrisyRey.com that he is running for U.S. Senate.
Rey is currently the mayor of Spring Lake and a former U.S. soldier. His service and leadership in the armed forces earned him military accolades, including the Bronze Star.
“Faith, family and service are what animates my life and gives it meaning,” Rey shared on his website. “I am called to service in the United States Senate, just as I was called to service as mayor of Spring Lake and in the Army.”
Rey said in a statement on his website that he would focus on making life better for North Carolinians by fully implementing health care reform, including the expansion of Medicaid, lowering the tax rate on small businesses to spur job growth, and support for public education. Additionally, Rey said he is committed to improving veteran relations through post active duty support and making sure wounded warriors have access to the health care and the wrap around services they need.
“I’m asking you to believe. To believe that all things are possible in America and in North Carolina. To believe that health care for all can be a reality instead of a mirage … to believe that until we are all equal we cannot be free … to believe that we can create jobs and opportunity here,” Rey said in a statement on his website.
According to his website, Rey holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Walden University, and a Juris Doctor Degree from William & Mary School of Law. He is currently pursuing a Masters in public administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Rey is seeking the Democratic nomination that would challenge Republican incumbent Richard Burr.
