RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – Two men are now behind bars at the Wake County Detention Center, less than a week after Raleigh Police opened an investigation into a deadly shooting at a local shopping center.

Raleigh Police say Tavarese Vine, 25, shot and killed 39-year-old Jerry Eugene Sumpter on September 17 outside the Wal-Mart in the Brier Creek shopping center.

Emil Emit Sherwood, 36, was also shot in the incident but is expected to survive.

Vine is now charged with Sumpter’s murder. Police have not said if Vine will be charged with shooting Sherwood.

Anthony Isiah Carrington, 24, was taken into custody Thursday in Durham with help from the Durham Police Department, Raleigh police said. Carrington is being held at the Wake County Detention Center.

As part of the investigation, police released surveillance images of the suspects fleeing the scene.

Raleigh Police investigators released this surveillance image of a car they say is involved in the shootings at a Brier Creek shopping plaza.

Detectives say the investigation is still ongoing, and they continue to look for information in the case.
