Power outage impacts 4 Cary schools

CARY, N.C. (WNCN) – A large power outage in Cary impacted Panther Creek High School, Green Hope High School and Green Hope Elementary School and Carpenter Elementary School, Wake County officials announced Thursday.

School officials said Duke Energy responded to the outage and the outage was restored to at least two schools late Thursday morning. WNCN confirmed that Green Hope High and Green Hope Elementary had power as of 11:50 a.m. Panther Creek had power as of 12:05 p.m.

“We expect power to be restored by noon. At this time, we do not anticipate canceling school,” the district announced on it’s website Thursday morning.

According to Duke Energy’s outage map online, the new restoration time was 2:15 p.m.

Wake County Schools told WNCN that alternative plans were being made for lunch.

The outage was caused by construction, Cary officials said. At one point more than 2,300 customers were without power. As of 11:30 a.m., more than 1,200 were without power, according to the outage map.
