SANFORD, N.C. (WNCN) – A hunt for a Sanford man believed to be armed and dangerous is underway after the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said he shot a well-know party DJ several times Wednesday night.
The victim later died from his wounds.
Taveun Dayquan Davis, 16, of Wakefield Road in Sanford is wanted on multiple charges after authorities say he shot Marcus Laverne Murchison early Wednesday evening. Deputies arrived at 622 Beulah Brown Road in Sanford and Murchison’s girlfriend, Heather Shontell Lindsey, gave authorities a description of the man who robbed Murchison and shot him several times.
Lindsey also said the man shot at her but she was not injured.
WNCN Investigates checked Davis’ criminal record and found he was arrested May 30 and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and possession of a handgun by a minor.
On Thursday morning, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office was notified that Murchison had died at UNC Hospitals. Thursday afternoon, authorities were at the scene of the shooting looking for clues.
Davis will be charged with murder, the Sheriff’s Office said.
“I’m heart-broken,” said Yolanda McIver, a neighbor of Murchison’s. “He was like family. It’s so sad.”
She said she arrived at her home shortly after the shooting.
“I pulled up in my driveway as the girl was running out saying he’d been shot,” McIver said. “I pulled up as she was trying to get help.”
Murchison was also known as Marcus Djexclusive.
“He’d give you the shirt off his back,” said Demetrius Dowdy, a friend. “Anything he could do for you, he’d do. There was always love in him.”
Dowdy said the shooting has stunned those who work as DJs in the area. Dowdy said Murchison taught him a great deal about how to be a DJ, and fellow DJs in the area will look to honor his memory.
“We’ll try to do something,” he said. “It’s kind of a hard pill to swallow but he’d want us to turn up for him.”
He is considered armed and dangerous.
