NC family of 4 displaced after kitchen cooking catches fire, damaging home

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (WNCN) — A family of parents and two children was displaced from their home after it was damaged by a fire on Sunday afternoon.

Around 4:15 p.m. Sunday, the Fayetteville Fire/Emergency Management Department responded to a home fire at 5244 Sundown Drive off Rock Canyon Drive in the Ponderosa Subdivision, authorities say.

On arrival there was smoke visible from a two story split level, brick, single family dwelling.

The fire was limited to the kitchen and attic area of the dwelling.

There were no injuries however four family members, two adults, two children, were displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross has been requested to assist the family.

The cause of the fire was determined to be unattended cooking and caused an estimated $20,000 in damages, said Fayetteville Asst. Fire Chief R. Bradshaw.
