ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. (WNCN) – A man charged in connection with a drive-by shooting in Roanoke Rapids that sent a 13-year-old to the hospital is out on bond, the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said.
Shermarquette Whitaker turned himself into authorities Sunday evening, WNCT reported.
Whitaker faces assault with a deadly weapon with Intent to kill and inflicting serious injury and discharging a weapon into an occupied property.
WNCT reported that the shooting happened just before midnight on Sept. 26. Deputies said Whitaker drove down Thelma Road in Roanoke Rapids and opened fire on a home.
During the incident, a 13-year-old who was inside the home was injured. The teen was transported to the hospital but is expected to recover.
Whitaker is out of jail on a $50,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 21.
