DALLAS (WNCT) — After a sluggish start, East Carolina rallied to win its first conference game of the year.
The Pirates scored 42 unanswered points to win 49-23 over Southern Methodist on Saturday.
Trailing by two after the first half, James Summers guided the Pirates to two third quarter touchdowns. First, the transfer quarterback connected with Trevon Brown for a 47-yards score.
Later in the third, Anthony Scott caps off a 9-play drive with a 1-yard touchdown run. ECU led 35-23 with 2:23 to play in the 3rd quarter.
The Pirates added two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter to secure their first win in Dallas since 2005.
The East Carolina defense impressed in the Pirates win. The Pirates allowed just 40 rushing yards on the day and collected 8 sacks against SMU.
ECU (3-2) will meet BYU (3-2) on October 10 at 7:30p.m.
