8-year-old girl dies in Tennessee shooting; police arrest 11-year-old suspect

WHITE PINE, Tenn. (WATE) — A shooting Sunday morning in White Pine left one 8-year-old girl dead and an 11-year-old suspect arrested on murder charges.

Jefferson County Sheriff G.W “Bud” McCoig said the White Pine Police Department and Jefferson County EMS responded to a reports of a little girl shot along Robin Road.

According to the sheriff, the 8-year-old was found lying on the ground with a gunshot would to her chest.

She was taken to Morristown-Hamblen hospital, where she later died.

During the investigation, police found a 12-gauge shotgun and BB pistol. Officers arrested an 11-year-old boy on charges of first degree murder.

The investigation is ongoing.
