SC mom and baby daughter saved from roof of flooded home by Coast Guard

HUGER, S.C. (WCBD) — A mother and her 15-month-old daughter were rescued from the roof of their flooded home by a Coast Guard air crew in Huger, S.C., Sunday.

Cristi Mueller and her daughter Kailynn Walts became stranded due to flooding in their neighborhood following days of heavy rain.

The Coast Guard was notified of the distress by the family at 6:24 a.m.

A crew aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Savannah, Georgia, was launched to rescue the two. Mueller and her daughter were hoisted and taken to Mt. Pleasant Regional Airport.

They are reportedly in good condition with no injuries.

“Me and my husband are very proud of our Coast Guard,” said Mueller. “They went above and beyond and made something scary a lot less traumatic.”
