Petition created to award Chris Mintz the Presidential Medal of Freedom

(WNCN) – There’s an online petition to have Chris Mintz, an Army Veteran with North Carolina ties who was shot at least five times during the Umpqua Community College shooting, awarded with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

According to petitions.whitehouse.gov, the petition claims that Mintz displayed “the values of loyalty, duty, respect, honor, integrity, personal courage, and self-sacrifice to attempt to save as many of his fellow citizens as possible.”

The goal of the petition, which was created on Oct. 2, is to reach 100,000 signatures. Right now there are a little under 12,000 signatures.
