DURHAM, N.C. – A man is dead after getting hit by a car early Sunday morning, Durham Police said.

The man, identified as Jose Luis De Lara, 44, of Durham, was hit at the intersection of Holloway Street and Junction Road at approximately 4 a.m.

He was hit by a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country driven by Ryan Keith Hanes, 30, of Durham.

De Lara was taken to Duke Hospital where he died from injuries sustained in the collision.

Investigators said speed and alcohol don’t appear to be factors.

De Lara’s friends tell WNCN he lived down the road with his girlfriend … That they rented a room in at the budget motel.

An employee at nearby Latin American foods says De Lara was a customer.

“I feel sad because he was regular customer. He come in here very often,” said Carlos Padilla of Latin American foods.

The incident is still under investigation but no charges have been filed at this time.

The eastbound lanes of Holloway Street were closed for more than two hours.
