Funeral Saturday for Durham man hit, killed by street sweeper

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – The funeral for a pedestrian killed early Tuesday morning in Durham will be held Saturday in Durham at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, according to his obituary Friday morning.

Justin Radtke, 25, of Durham, was killed around 3 a.m. Tuesday in the area of U.S. Highway 15-501 near Cornwallis Road, police said.

A call to 911 reported that a man was running into traffic before the accident occurred. A street sweeper going southbound on U.S. 15-501 just south of the N.C. 751 exit hit Radtke when he ran out from the median into the travel lane, according to investigators.

Radtke graduated from Durham Academy, according to his obituary, and attended Duke University before graduating from Reed College in Portland. He is survived by his parents, sister and brother as well as three grandparents.
