GARNER, N.C. (WNCN) – Troopers with the Highway Patrol are investigating a single vehicle accident that left a man dead.
Troopers said a BMW was traveling west around 2 a.m. on Pearce Road near Nicklaus Drive and traveled off the left side of the roadway striking a driveway culvert.
The vehicle became airborne and struck at tree, a brick retaining wall, and over turned landing on its top, Troopers said. The driver was partly ejected from the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle was killed as a result of the collision.
Neighbors say they weren’t surprised and that this stretch of road has been a problem.
“It’s the second or third time this has happened in this area since I’ve been living here. It’s been a quite a challenge. You know you have to watch when you come out your driveway. I always try to be careful when I come out,” said Harold Sanders, who lives along the road.
Neighbors say they have put up speed limit signs recently … But it hasn’t made much of a difference.
The identification of the driver has not been released due to next of kin notification.
