ELIZABETHTOWN, NC (WECT) — A man is being charged with murder in the death of his stepfather Monday morning, according to Elizabethtown Police.
According to Interim Police Chief Kip Hester, police responded to the 2000 block of W. Broad Street around 10:15 a.m. in reference to a domestic call.
When officers arrived, they found a deceased man who appeared to have been beaten and suffering from multiple lacerations.
Eyewitnesses told officers that the suspect left on foot towards a nearby wooded area. Elizabethtown Christian Academy was placed on lockdown as officers searched for the suspect.
Bladen County Sheriff’s Office, along with the State Highway Patrol, assisted Elizabethtown police with locating the suspect near Hwy 87, close to the crime scene.
Jonathan Bruce Parker, 44, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and is currently being held without bond.
Parker is accused of killing his stepfather, whom he lived with at their home on W. Broad Street.
Hester said his department is working with the SBI and the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office and the investigation is ongoing.
The victim’s name will not be released until family can be contacted.
