NC State, South Carolina to play in 2017 kickoff game

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – N.C. State and South Carolina will open the 2017 against each other in the Belk College Kickoff Game at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, the University announced Tuesday.

“We have been in discussions with South Carolina for a couple of years and were able this past August to find a mutually acceptable season to play,” said N.C. State Director of Athletics Debbie Yow.

South Carolina holds a one game advantage over the Wolfpack in a series that dates back to 1900. The overall series is 27-26-4.

N.C. State has received criticism for its 2015 out-of-conference schedule. The Wolfpack steamrolled Eastern Kentucky, Troy, Old Dominion and South Alabama before falling flat and losing to Louisville and Virginia Tech.

In 2017, State will face Notre Dame in South Bend and also play Marshall and Furman.

N.C. State was originally planned to play Troy in 2017. That game will be move to a later year, the school announced.
