Dozens of graves damaged, windows broken at NC church

LOCUST, N.C. (WBTV) – Nearly three-dozen grave markers were damaged when police say a vandal hit a Locust church and cemetery.

The damage was found at the Running Creek Baptist Church along Millingport Road, in Locust, Saturday afternoon.

Church leaders found damage in the church building and also damage to grave markers within the cemetery. They say at least 33 grave markers were damaged, destroyed or pushed over. There were several windows broken in the church’s sanctuary.

The church estimates $14,000 of damages to the grave markers and $3,000 in building damages.

Sheriff George T. Burris said that the investigation into this case is ongoing and that there are positive leads that are being followed.
