NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WNCN) — A newborn named Miracle — who was delivered just as her mom passed away from a stabbing 2 weeks ago — has now also died, South Carolina officials say.
The Charleston County Coroner reports that baby Miracle Noelle Frazier died at MUSC on Saturday night just before 8 p.m.
Miracle was emergency delivered on Oct. 10 just as her mom, Malakia Frazier, died from stab wounds inflicted her boyfriend, police say.
Malakia Lasha Frazier, age 26, of North Charleston died after being stabbed several times.
At about 11:25 p.m. Oct 10, a Saturday, police responded to Railroad Avenue in reference to a stabbing. When they arrived, officers located a woman lying on the ground near Railroad Avenue and Graham Street.
The victim’s boyfriend, 26 year old Ricky Short, has been charged with Murder, Attempted Murder of their unborn child, and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime.
Short could now face homicide charges for Miracle’s death, which is now ruled a homicide, officials say.
Charleston County Deputy Coroner Dottie Lindsay says mom Frazier died less than an hour later at a hospital, where staff performed an emergency procedure to deliver the baby. Miracle had been in intensive care since then.
North Charleston police spokesman Lt. Angela Johnson said Short and Frazier were arguing before the stabbing.
