DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – More than 2,000 jobs in Durham are tied to lodging, according to the Convention and Visitors Bureau.
On Wednesday, students and people from the community gathered at Durham Technical Community College to learn more about the types of jobs and what degrees and certifications are available.
They asked local hotel managers questions about the business.
Alecia Lawrence, the director of business administration programs at Durham Tech, said the goal was to “to get an insight on what’s going on in the hotel and lodging industry, not just that there’s a lot being built, but why, get an understanding of why they’re being built.
“Another takeaway is what Durham Tech has to offer individuals who are wanting to get in this industry.”
The industry is growing in the Bull City. Next year, there are expected to be more than 8,700 hotel rooms in Durham. That’s up nearly a thousand from last year.
