GOLDSBORO, NC (WNCN) — A man who is a registered sex offender held a knife to a woman’s throat and sexually assaulted her on Wednesday morning, Goldsboro Police say.
On Wednesday around 8:55 a.m., the Goldsboro Police Department responded to 300 block of N. Alabama Avenue about a sexual assault of a 70-year-old female.
“The victim reported a known subject had held her a knife point and penetrated her … with his fingers. She fought the suspect and struggled to free herself,” said Investigator J. Adams of the Goldsboro Police.
The suspect left and the victim ran across the street to call 911, Adams said in a press release.
The woman was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment and evaluation.
The investigation revealed that Melvin Earl Williams, 52-year-old, man was the suspect that committed the sexual assault, according to Adams.
It was also determined that Williams, of Edgerton Street, is a registered Sex Offender and currently on probation, Adams said.
Williams was arrested without incident. At the time of arrest he was found to have several scratches and cuts to his arm and was in possession of a knife, Adams said.
Williams was taken to the Magistrate’s Office and charged with two counts of 1st Degree Forcible Sex Offense and additional charges are pending.
Williams was placed in the Wayne County Jail under an $800,000.00 secured bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
