Violent fugitive wanted for shooting at Georgia officer arrested in NC

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – A man wanted in Georgia on multiple charges, including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, was arrested in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Dundra Sharess Merrell, 24, of Brunswick, Georgia, was arrested Tuesday in Fayetteville by members of the Eastern District of North Carolina Violent Fugitive Task Force and the Fayetteville Police Department.

Merrell was wanted by the Brunswick Police Department for aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The incident occurred on July 9 when Merrell fired a weapon into a vehicle, police said. One person inside the vehicle was hit and Merrell then fired at Brunswick police officer who was responding to the shooting.

Merrell was arrested in the 2800 block of Coronada Parkway in Fayetteville Tuesday and was being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center.
