CHESTER, S.C. (WBTV) – A 11-year-old boy has died after police say he was struck by a vehicle while waiting for the bus Tuesday morning in Chester.

School officials say La’Darius Wylie, a 5th grade students at Chester Park Center of Literacy through Technology, died Wednesday afternoon.

Wylie was hit by a vehicle just before 7:30 a.m. near the intersection of Ashford and Dye Streets in Chester. Other children were also at the bus stop, school leaders said.

Police say the driver then drove away.

Tuesday afternoon, investigators told WBTV they were questioning a person of interest as well as witnesses.

Wylie reportedly sustained “severe injuries” in the incident and was rushed to a hospital in Chester before being airlifted to Levine Children’s Hospital. He later died from his injuries.
