NC man found shot and killed in what first appeared to be car crash, deputies say

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Pitt County Sheriff’s Office says a Greenville man is dead from a gunshot wound Saturday night.

Deputies were dispatched to 2196 Penny Hill Rd around 2 a.m. for a report to assist EMS.

The NC Highway Patrol came to the scene of what looked like a traffic accident.

“The NC Highway Patrol responded to a possible hit and run or traffic accident with a fatality on Penny Hill Road,” deputies said.

The Medical Examiner arrived on scene and discovered 31-year-old Jamel Demar Moore suffered from a gunshot wound.

Moore, of the 1400 block of Westpointe Drive in Greenville, was not shot in the chest, although the location of the wound is unavailable.

The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the homicide.

WNCT was on scene during the active investigation.
