Dozens of wrecks slow Triangle traffic on wet, grim Monday

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – A grim, rainy day led for a messy day on the roads Monday in Raleigh and around central North Carolina.

Raleigh Police said they had responded to 135 wrecks on Monday by 4 p.m. That compared to 55 wrecks in the same time frame on Monday, Oct. 20, which was considered a normal traffic day.

Traffic on the Raleigh Beltline near Glenwood Avenue had dropped to 20 mph at 5:45 p.m.,, and traffic on I-40 out of Durham headed toward Raleigh was down to 40 mph.

In Durham, the Durham Freeway South was crawling along at 13 mph near West Chapel Hill Street.
