ROXBORO, N.C. (WNCN) – A 15-year-old Roxboro teen said she was stuck with a needle when she took a bite of a candy bar received when trick or treating.
Kaleigh Gunter’s mother called the Person County Sheriff Office to report a needle hidden in a Snickers Fun Size candy bar had stuck her daughter in the roof her mouth.
“When I bit down, the something stabbed the top of my mouth so I knew it had to be a nail or a needle or something like that,” said Gunter.
This was the first report of the incident in North Carolina, but by Monday evening, another family in Charlotte said they had a similar experience.
Kaleigh said she was eating the Snickers she got out of her 9-year-old brother’s candy bucket.
Kaleigh received a minor puncture wound on the roof of her mouth. She got a tetanus shot Monday morning as a precaution.
Misty Brogden, Kaleigh’s mother, said she will check all candy to check for foreign objects.
“It looked like a needle, but then I looked at it more closely and it seemed to be a nail,” Brogden said. “You hear about these things happening all around the country, but I never thought it would happen to my children.”
The Person County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation into the incident is closed.
They said there is nowhere to go and nothing to go on at this point other than the word of the reporting person.
The sheriff’s office hasn’t received any similar reports.
