SPENCER, N.C. (WBTV) – A convicted felon has been charged with having a weapon of mass destruction after deputies say they found guns in his car.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s office say’s Joshua Alexander Hovis, 28, was arrested on October 23 as a result of a joint investigation by the Rowan county Sheriff’s Office, Salisbury police, and Homeland Security.
Hovis was reportedly pulled over on North Long Street in East Spencer in a 1993 Buick. That’s where investigators say they found a .357 revolver under the driver’s seat, and a sawed off .22 rifle in the trunk.
He is being charged with possession of marijuana, possession of a weapon of mass destruction, two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, and two cocaine charges.
Deputies say Hovis has an “extensive criminal history” including felony convictions for drug and gun charges, and well as multiple other misdemeanor arrests.
His bond as been set at $100,000.
