NC murder suspect believed to have passed through Roanoke Rapids

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – The  search for a murder suspect from Davidson County has reached eastern North Carolina.


Investigators say a dark blue Chrysler Town and Country van being driven by Lloyd Wayne Franklin was spotted Tuesday night on I-95 near Roanoke Rapids.

Police said Franklin killed an elderly couple last week in Thomasville. David Lee McSwain, 82, and Joan McSwain, 78, were found dead in ther home by their son. Parts of the house were ransacked and deputies told WXII in Winston-Salem that robbery may have been the motive.

The dark blue van belongs to the McSwains. The van has North Carolina license plate XRX-2142, according to WXII.

Lloyd Wayne Franklin is also wanted in connection with robberies in Moore County and Myrtle Beach.

Franklin, 34, is believed to be traveling with 38-year-old Jennifer Lanning.

Carl Colasacco of the Aberdeen Police Department said, “From what we’re being told by Davidson County’s office, the vehicle that was stolen and the handgun being used in the robberies was also stolen from the victims in Davidson County .”
