RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – The man charged in a fatal hit-and-run death of a 23-year-old man on Poole Road appeared in court Tuesday.
Caesar Leake, 47, of Knightdale, was arrested Monday and charged in the Oct. 30 death of Terrance Faison, of Raleigh. Troopers said an anonymous tip led to Leake’s arrest.
Leake appeared in court to face charges of felony hit-and-run inflicting serious injury or death, driving while impaired, felony death by motor vehicle and insurance fraud.
Leake was given a $275,000 bond at Tuesday’s court appearance.
Before receiving his bond, prosecutors said Leake has four prior DWIs and a witness saw him intoxicated after returning home night of crash.
Troopers said Faison was walking along the right shoulder of Poole Road when he was hit by a 2004 or 2005 gold, two-tone Eddie Bauer Edition Ford Expedition and that the SUV should have front right side damage.
The right corner of the vehicle’s bumper was left at the scene, helping troopers to identify the vehicle involved.
According to a warrant, investigators found Leake’s vehicle at an auto repair shop.
Authorities took paint samples and parts of the vehicle, including the headlight and bumper, for evidence.
