Car gets hit by Amtrak train after driving around stop arms

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – A car was hit by an Amtrak train Thursday morning in Raleigh after the woman driving the car drove around the stop arms at a railroad crossing.

The incident occurred just before 10:30 a.m. near Hillsborough Street and Nowell Road, an Amtrak official said.


The car was hit by Amtrak Train 80, the Carolinian, which travels daily between Charlotte and New York City, the official said.

According to Amtrak and authorities on scene, none of the 98 passengers on the train were injured. The woman whose car was hit suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.

Service has been temporarily halted so authorities can investigate the collision.
