DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – University of North Carolina Women’s Basketball coach Sylvia Hatchell spoke at a breakfast event for the American Cancer Society in Durham Thursday morning.
Hatchell was diagnosed with a form of Leukemia in 2013. That season she took a leave of absence due to her cancer diagnosis.
Now, two years later, she’s cancer-free and still coaching.
“You know, we need to get rid of this terrible disease, and the only way we’re going to do it is with funding. I am just happy to be back there and be coaching, because two years ago I didn’t know if I was going to be here, but I am a miracle and I know I am.,” Hatchell told WNCN.
In an effort to raise cancer research funding, people took pictures and shared them on social media, tagging U.S. Senators.
