8-year-old girl hit in Raleigh in critical condition at Duke

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – An 8-year-old who was struck by a car Thursday night is in critical condition at the Duke University hospital, the hospital confirmed Friday evening.

The accident happened around 5:50 p.m. on Perry Creek Road near Filbin Creek Drive Thursday.

Police identified the girl as Ziari King and then driver as 26-year-old Michael Britt Jr. WakeMed said Friday that King had been treated and released. But Duke University Hospital said King had been transferred to Duke and was in critical condition.

“I heard the boom and then I heard the screaming,” said neighbor D’Mari Thomas.

The wreck report indicated the girl darted into the road and the driver of a 2008 Honda sedan was unable to avoid hitting her.

Police said King was taken to WakeMed with serious injuries.

On Friday, police said that no charges were expected to be filed in the incident.
