Driver seriously injured in early morning Wake County crash

WAKE COUNTY, N.C. (WNCN) – The Highway Patrol is investigating an early morning crash on Lake Wheeler road near Simpkins Road.

Troopers said the accident happened around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. Troopers said a vehicle was traveling north on Lake Wheeler road when it ran off the road to the right, over-corrected, ran off the left side of the road before hitting a ditch and tree.

The driver, 22-year-old Dustin Boone Willets of Winnabow, was being treated at WakeMed for serious injuries.

Highway Patrol said there were three other passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The passengers have been identified as 24-year-old Carlton Holden of Durham, 24-year-old Emmalee Osier and 32-year-old Shannon Kimball. Both females live in Raleigh.

Highway Patrol did not say if any charges would be filed.
