DUNBAR, N.C. (WNCN) – Three men are under arrest in Edgecombe County after deputies found them breaking into a home and tracked the suspects with police dogs.
The Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call Thursday at 8:34 a.m. about a break-in at the Dunbar subdivision. The caller saw three men who had weapons and were coming from a small, black four-door car.
Deputies arrived on the scene, and one of the men drove toward an officer, who opened fire. The car then wrecked against a tree and the driver pointed a weapon at the officers, the sheriff said.
The deputies then opened fire but the driver escaped.
Two other men were in the home. One was arrested and other fled into the woods, along with the driver.
A sheriff’s canine began tracking the suspects and one was arrested. A second canine and officers from the Tarboro Police Department and tracked the third man. He was eventually arrested at his home in Country Estates Mobile Home Park in Battleboro.
Steven Maurice Lloyd, 18, of 2148 Meadowbrook Road, Rocky Mount, for Breaking and/or Entering, Larceny of a Firearm, Felony Larceny. He was also served with outstanding paperwork from Nash County for Communicating Threats and another outstanding paper from Edgecombe Couty for Simple Assault. He has a bond of $77,000.
Calvin Terrell Canady, 19, of 101 Linden Place, Rocky Mount. He was charged with Breaking and or Entering, Larceny of a Firearm, Felony Larceny, Assault With a Deadly Weapon on Government Official (two counts), and Possession of Firearm by Felon. He has a bond of $350,000.
Demaris Rashon Avent, 18, of 4288 Wheel Ct, Battleboro. He was charged with Breaking and/or Entering and Larceny of a Firearm, Felony Larceny. His bond was set at $35,000.
