RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – The Wake Forest man accused of murdering his wife in October after recently being released from prison appeared in a Wake County courtroom Thursday.
Lanson Paul Stalf will remain in jail without bond on the first-degree murder charges.
The appearance was brief. Stalf entered in an orange and white prison suit wearing handcuffs. He agreed to have a court-appointed attorney represent him.
Stephanie Autry, 34, was murdered Tuesday, Oct. 27, at her home in Wake Forest.
Warrants showed Autry was found inside a home in the 4400 block of Iyar Way with a plastic bag wrapped around her head.
Documents showed Autry was also covered with a blanket and a hammer was found in the home near the bathroom.
After three-day nationwide manhunt, police arrested Stalf at a Mississippi hotel after authorities said he robbed a bank in that state.
As of Nov. 16, Stalf had been transported to Central Prison.
Stalf is facing murder charges in Autry’s death. He had previously served 212 days of prison time for a bank robbery in Wake Forest in 2013. He was released Oct. 15.
